How can I find a hydro power turbine installer?

When installing a small-scale hydro power turbine, finding a qualified professional installer who can offer you the most competitive price will be very important. Unfortunately, there are currently only a small number of installers for this technology so it may be difficult to get quotes from several installers.

How to find installers

To receive income in the form of Feed-in Tariff (FiT) payments for the electricity produced by your hydro power project, micro-hydro schemes are now covered by a different process to other small energy systems (like wind and solar power).

Previously you had to use installers accredited through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), but now you need to seek accreditation through the ‘ROO-FIT’ process, via Ofgem. See: www.ofgem.gov.uk/fits or email them on ROOFIT@ofgem.gov.uk for advice.

In addition, some installers may be members of a professional body, or will have been assessed by NICEIC. See the contacts below.
