Eco building & renovation - sustainable building technology

rammed earth walls and timber structure at CATThe built environment - the houses we work and live in - plays an important role in efforts to live more sustainably.

Eco-building is one of CAT’s key areas of work. If you want to either build your own home or take on the renovation of an existing property, we can help in several ways. We demonstrate many building materials and techniques at our visitor centre, we sell many practical guides and we run both short hands-on residential courses and postgraduate qualifications covering low energy building design.

The sheet available below and the list of answers to common questions give an overview of eco-building techniques and materials. For much greater detail see the range of publications in the eco-building section of our online bookshop.
